This course explores modern statistical learning methods that are frequently seen in data science and machine learning. Due to the explosive increase in computing power, highly computational data analytic methods, or “statistical learning” methods, have been and are currently being developed. The course aims to go far beyond the classical statistical methods, such as the linear and logistic regressions, to provide a very applied view to modern methods such as generalized additive models, decision trees, boosting, bagging, support vector machines, and neural networks (deep learning).
